We asked for nominations of outstanding students from five local high schools to recognize them for their volunteer service, citizenship, leadership growth and academic achievements. This award is given based upon community service activities, leadership, and academics. The five finalists were: Ms. Sophia Charney (Chesapeake High), Ms. Kaila Blevins (North County High), Ms. Bela Pandya (Northeast High), Ms. Jahnavi Kola (Old Mill High), and Ms. Kate Grabowski (Severna Park High). Our winner was Ms. Bela Pandya!! Each student was recognized and given a check and a plaque at an awards dinner.

What is Kiwanis?

Kiwanis is a global service organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.

The overall Kiwanis organization was founded in 1915 in Detroit, Michigan. There are currently 240,000 members in 7,700 clubs in 80 countries. The word Kiwanis means ‘We Build’.

The Severna Park Kiwanis is a group of citizens who are committed to improve their community on a local and global level. Since 1955, we have been raising funds to give back to the community.

The Severna Park Kiwanis club also supports and sponsors a variety of Kiwanis-based clubs around the area such as the:

• Severna Park, Old Mill, Chesapeake, and North County High School Key Clubs
• Anne Arundel Community College Circle K International (CKI) Club
• Glen Burnie Aktion Club

The goal of our club support is improve quality of life through activities promoting health and education as well as to encourage leadership and service among the youth in our area. The Severna Park Kiwanis group has approximately 1,000+ Maryland youth and young adults involved in our Kiwanis-based clubs.
